About

The Full Story

Hello, I’m Lizzie, the counsellor behind Bear Counselling.

I’m a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor, offering online and telephone therapy for adults seeking a calm and compassionate space to reflect, heal, and reconnect. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I work in line with their ethical framework to provide a safe, confidential, and supportive environment.

I decided to retrain as a counsellor post pandemic after years of customer service industry work. I am passionate about helping others, who like me, find it difficult to access support suited for them and their lives. I feel privileged to hear other’s experiences and be able to walk alongside them as a guide in counselling. The counselling relationship is unique, and I hope to offer a safe and comfortable space for each of my clients.

My approach is integrative, drawing from a range of therapeutic perspectives to find what best supports you — working together in a way that feels natural, respectful, and attuned to your needs. I have a particular passion for supporting carers and people navigating new diagnoses or exploring their neurodiverse identity. My own lived experience helps me understand how complex and isolating these journeys can feel — and how important it is to have space where you are truly seen and understood.

I also work with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, overwhelm, self-doubt, and identity challenges, helping them reconnect with themselves and find gentler ways to move through life’s difficulties.

You might be wondering why Bear? The name Bear Counselling came to me naturally and has a strong personal connection to my life. Like a bear, my practice foundation represents strength wrapped in gentleness — a reminder that courage and compassion can coexist. It is also an acronym, the 'B' represents Beneficence, the promotion of wellbeing in others. The 'E' represents Empathy, a core value of my practice. The 'A' represents Autonomy, counselling should empower you to make decisions which are right for you. The 'R' represents resilience, having the strength and wisdom to face challenge whilst nurturing yourself.

Outside of counselling I enjoy connecting with others and advocating for those who feel unheard. I also love music and find it a powerful way to connect and express myself.
